
Job Title: Senior Ecologist

We are working with a large multidisciplinary consultancy with offices across the UK and internationally. They are all about delivering sustainable ecological solutions across a variety of projects. They focus on habitat restoration, biodiversity, and ensuring that ecological needs are considered in every stage of planning, design, and development.
They are looking for a Senior or Principal Ecologist to join their team The successful candidate will have the opportunity to manage and conduct ecology surveys across a variety of exciting projects, including those in infrastructure, transportation, residential development, energy, and nationally significant initiatives. The role will involve working on large-scale habitat restoration projects and contributing to the conservation of habitats and species through thoughtful management plans.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide expert ecological advice, identifying opportunities for maximizing biodiversity on various projects
- Consult with external stakeholders as part of the licensing process and design species management plans
- Draft and review key ecological reports, including Preliminary Ecological Appraisals, Phase 2 survey reports, and licence applications
- Prepare technical reports, such as Ecological Impact Assessments, Habitat Regulations Assessments, and Biodiversity chapters for Environmental Statements
- Support the delivery of Biodiversity Net Gain
- Manage fieldwork conducted by internal ecologists and subcontractors, ensuring it meets quality and project standards
REQUIREMENTS
- A degree in Ecology or a related discipline
- Proven experience in professional ecological consultancy
- A broad understanding of terrestrial ecological issues
- Experience with ecological assessments, including Preliminary Ecological Appraisals (PEA), Habitat Regulations Assessments (HRA), Ecological Impact Assessments (EcIA), and Biodiversity chapters of Environmental Statements
- In-depth knowledge of UK ecological legislation and policy
- Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage complex projects and think creatively
- Experience in preparing fee proposals and managing project budgets
- A strong passion for ecology and a commitment to delivering nature-based solutions
- Familiarity with UKHab classification and the BNG Defra Metric is a plus
- Excellent report writing skills and keen attention to detail
- A full UK driving licence
