Job Title: Senior Ecologist

A leading multidisciplinary consultancy with a strong reputation for delivering high-quality ecological and environmental services across the UK is looking for a Senior Ecologist to join their growing team. The company is looking for an experienced professional to manage and lead key ecological projects from their West Midlands office, working with clients across the Midlands and beyond.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Managing and delivering a range of ecological projects from inception to completion, ensuring projects meet high environmental standards
- Conducting field surveys, including Phase 1 and protected species surveys, and provide leadership to junior staff
- Leading the preparation of Ecological Impact Assessments (EcIA), Habitat Regulations Assessments (HRA), and Biodiversity Net Gain assessments
- Preparing high-quality technical reports, including Preliminary Ecological Appraisals (PEAs) and European Protected Species (EPS) licence applications
- Providing expert ecological advice for multi-disciplinary projects, working closely with clients, regulators, and stakeholders
- Mentoring junior ecologists, fostering a collaborative and professional team environment
REQUIREMENTS
- A degree in Ecology or a related discipline
- A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience within ecological consultancy
- Strong knowledge of UK and EU wildlife legislation and planning policy
- Protected species licences (e.g., bat or great crested newt) are highly desirable
- Membership of CIEEM
- Proven experience in project management, client liaison, and delivery of high-quality reports.
- Experience with Biodiversity Net Gain and UKHab classification
- Proficiency in GIS mapping and other ecological tools
- CSCS card or relevant site certifications
- A full UK driving licence
